Well the answer is, IC3.  Thanks to Galen and his family for hosting what is becoming a annual event, Galen’s New Years Ride.

Before leaving for a ride down the Cherry Creek bike path Galen lead the group in a prayer.  Galen then let the group put in prayer requests.

We had a great ride down the trail.  We did a short loop out to Cheery Creek Reservoir before heading down to REI.  We picked-up a rider as we headed back from Village Green park.  I have forgot his name but I knew him from the Bicycle Village Aurora rides.  I was amazed at how many other riders were out on the trail.  Denver definitely has some hard core bicycle riders.

We stopped at REI and had some hot drinks and food before heading out.  At REI we ran in to the Bicycle Village ride who was also having their first ride of the new year.  On the way back we did a short loop around the Sport Authority Stadium.  Josh Taylor took a photo of the group in front of the stadium.  See the photo below, Rich Sweeny is the one “Tebowing”.

We arrived back at Galen’s house about 12:15 – 12:30 where Carol (Galen’s wife) had a GREAT lunch ready for everybody.

All in all it was a great morning for a ride, fellowship and food.

2012 National Cyclocross Championship: Report

VERONA, WISCONSIN — When you’ve been racing for five years and you’re in the 13-14 race, odds are good that you’re serious about what you do. That’s certainly the case for three-time National Champion Gage Hecht (International Christian Cycling Club), who took the holeshot in what was arguably the fastest start of the day. The 13-14 year old juniors charged down the pavement en masse, and strung out almost as quickly as they hit the slick, greasy course. By the 180 degree turn, riders were strung out and the leaders, Hecht and Spencer Petrov (Lionhearts) as the two standouts on the front.

One lap in, Hecht had created a gap of 15 bike lengths between himself and Petrov, and their gap on the rest of the field had grown to 10 seconds. Behind them in third was Cameron Beard, and five seconds behind him saw Sean McElroy (Team Specialized Racing) and Michael Owens.

The crowds had grown since earlier in the morning, and the friends and families of the racers were out in force, cheering on their hometown favorites. The course has been getting slicker and muddier as the day has progressed, and riders were spending more time tripoding to stay upright in the sharp corners. The cloud coverage caused temperatures to drop slightly, and racers finished looking spent and chilly, though for Hecht, nothing could wipe the smile off of his face.

“I’m really happy with the race,” he told Cyclocross Magazine. “It went great and I did everything I felt like I needed to.”

It was a fantastic summer of racing for the Colorado ICCC mountain bike team!  We got off to a great start at the Hill Climb with a strong team presence and good results.  We had good participation at the subsequent races, a fun team event in a condo over the double-header Point-to-Point and Super D weekend, and stayed strong through the end of the season.  The weeks and races peeled off the calendar altogether too quickly.  It seemed like the season flew by – one week we were training for the Hill Climb, then, in the blink of an eye, we were suddenly getting ready for the King of the Rockies grand finale.  And then the 2011 Winter Park Epic Singletrack Race Series was over.  We finished 10th out of the 36 teams.  Great work, racers!

ICCC mountain bike racers also participated in a variety of other events including Mountain States Cup, Gunnison Growler, Breckenridge Firecracker 50, Leadville Silver Rush 50, and the Leadville 100. Great work, racers!

While it is easy to focus on the scoreboard and look at race results, the real focus of what we do (and our lives) should be on being ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor 5: 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.).  We were out there helping other teams set up tents, helping other racers with bike prep, sharing experiences, and serving others (racers, spectators, event staff, etc).  While we can’t measure and quantify the impact we had on lives, it is safe to say we had a really good year – lots of ambassadors for Christ out there rockin’ the ICCC jerseys, riding and racing, serving, and shining the light of Christ. Many thanks to everyone who participated in every respect – riding, racing, praying, encouraging, etc.  We had a great group up in Winter Park each weekend and had were a force for the Kingdom.  Well done, team!

In addition to our impact on others, we were building one another up (1 Thess 5: 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.) and spurring one another on (Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching).

The double-header weekend was a great team building event.  We broke bread together, watched some Tour de France action, and explored some electronic muscle recovery techniques and some stretching techniques.  That foam roll thing seemed to me to be an instrument of torture, but many people swore by it, so apparently it works for others!

Great job, everyone – those on the team as well as all those who raced or rode or prayed for our impact!

There is much information on the ACA web site including the ACA Position Statement and a ACA USAC Comparison Chart.

This appears to be a very HOT topic. There are many emails and
much dicusion regarding what the ACA should do. I sent a email to the IC3 Adult
Race Team members asking for feedback regarding this issue. The following is
the compilation of all the responses I received to the email I sent.

Here is the scoop -

We want the ACA to stay around or NO MORE JUNIORS. The USAC wants
to take the money from ACA and we all lose. There are 12 pros who don’t want to
pay for dual licensure. There are just a few master cyclocross racers upset. Otherwise
it is a farce.

We want the ACA to stay and unless you have been on the inside
with the ACA it is confusing. Please reiterate to the racers we do not want to
join the USAC unless you want no more than one or two races in CO a month.

I read the position paper of the ACA on the website. I understand
that that position paper might be skewed in favor of independence (which it
is), but apart from that there are economic reasons NOT to join USAC with entry
fees and our ability to be and stay local with a comparative advantage with
junior cycling. (reason 1 not to join). The position paper also recounts some
‘take it or leave it’ attitude by the USAC in joint racing and cooperation with
litle relationship building in the USAC to the ACA direction. The third
position relates to IC3 value to junior racing which seems to take a back seat
with the USAC alliance.

I would be interested in others’ reads, but prima facia and
without a position paper from the USAC on the pros, I would vote against the
ACA joining the USAC. I would especially like to

hear the junior position from IC3 (Elliott and Hecht) with the cross over
participation and junior program….thanks for including us..

This issue has been around for a long time. Overall, moving into
USAC will mean fewer races and more cost. Their association uses up a lot more
of the money than ours does. The biggest one to me is the junior programs. USAC
supports elite junior racing and the grass roots junior racing is on the back
burner. As well, they take our money and don’t feed as much of it into the
general junior

programs. Overall, I think the ACA does a much better job than USAC.

The ACA is going to send out a survey soon to get an idea what the
membership wants to do. Then there may be a vote. If they merge, I am sure
there will still be bicycle racing in Colorado. It will just cost more and be
different.

Yes I saw this. My vote is AGAINST the change. I believe CO riders
are way better represented by ACA.

Before you decide you are for joining, read the detailed
comparison that the ACA sent out

(and has on the website). Overall it looks like most of our money will be
sucked up to support national and our freedoms will be limited. Right now we
have the freedom to cater more to junior development and the mature cat 3 and 4
riders, who are the foundation of our membership. Under

the current situation, we get all the benefits of an independent ACA as well as
the option to buy a USAC license and participate in all their events. So far I
have had lots of good racing without feeling the need to buy a separate USAC
license. If we join USAC then we would have to charge extra money to continue
our junior programs, which may be the equivalent cost of being forced to buy
both licenses. I’m not sure how it might affect our ability to offer options to
older cat 3 and 4 riders, but we may have to take on some constraints there. I
haven’t made a final decision yet, but it’s starting

to look like a bad deal.

well versed on this issue. I’m ecstatic at the stance IC3 is planning to take
in voting NO.
